At the Bench Live

Joel McFadden

MJSA’s At the Bench Live, Presented by Joel McFadden

Throughout the day on Sunday and Monday, jeweler Joel McFadden will periodically lead 10- to 15-minute live demonstrations of bench skills, from basic to advanced. Based on his popular At the Bench columns in MJSA Journal, the demonstrations will cover a variety of fabrication and setting techniques, including fishtail, flush, and pavé settings, among others. All of the sessions will take place in the MJSA Expo Demonstration Area, located by Booth 409. Two benches will be set up—one for Joel, one for any attendee who would like to practice a technique under Joel’s guidance—and copies of his articles will be available. A full schedule of demonstrations will be announced on site.

Joel McFadden is a third-generation jeweler taught by his grandfather and other old-time jewelers in Charleston, South Carolina. He now owns The Art of Jewelry By Joel McFadden, a custom –design studio in Red Bank, New Jersey, and is one of the most experienced diamond setters in the United States. A frequent lecturer and a contributor to various industry publications, he was named the first Mentor Jeweler by the MJSA Council of Custom Jewelers in 2017.
