Computer-aided design (CAD) has revolutionized the way jewelry is made these days. No longer do jewelers have to spend hours carving a wax for casting (and then potentially hours more re-carving in the event of a casting failure). Now jewelers can simply fire up their computers and, in fairly short time, produce a design that can then be printed or milled for casting.
